The
Conflict Archaeology Field School is a course within the SFV Summer University
that gives participants the opportunity to work side by side with professional
war archaeologists at the Hanko Front.
During the
course, you will take part in practical work in the field and at the same time
delve into Hanko's role during World War II. Each day begins with a lecture on
the history of the battles, archaeological excavation techniques, the search
for the fallen and missing, and safety when working with war relics. The
introduction is followed by excavations and, if the weather prevents digging, study
visits and programs at the Hanko Front Museum. The work is carried out in
accordance with international ethical rules and with strict safety regulations.
👉 Please note that the course runs
from 20.5–29.5 and 31.8–11.9.2026 from 10 am to 4 pm with a total of 18
separate excavation days: you are free to choose which days you want to
participate in! The course fee is 25 euros per day.
